Last over win for Old Whitgiftians

MCC u16 – 155-4 (20)
OWCC u16 – 156-6 (19.3)

Mitcham somehow lost a game that looked theirs for much of a thrilling evening in South Croydon. The Browncaps posted a decent score of 155-4 in their 20 overs as Azeem followed up his 33 last week with 55, and under14 captain Maywon making a brilliant 61* in a 48-ball innings that included three 6s and four 4s. Their 74-run partnership for the second wicket put the visitors in a strong position as the rain-delayed start meant the Whits needed to bat in fading light. Great economical bowling from Moyz (3-0-7-1) and excellent fielding, including many overs with just 9 home fielders, kept the score down.

The Old Whits were well behind the Mitcham score when the 5th wicket fell at 57. But first with Abhishek (18) and then with the swashbuckling Arjun (33*), the excellent captain Krish (34*) played a perfectly timed innings to see the home side to victory with just three balls to spare.

The result was cruel on our u16 team who were massively improved in the field compared to last week. Great bowling from Mahesh with best bowling figures of 3 for 16, ably supported by Maywon who conceded just 1 for 12 in his four overs and a superb one-handed catch from Azeem on the boundary.

The boys will be looking for their first home win next week against Trinity Mid-Whits.
