Great start for the under 14s

In a game that neither side deserved to lose, Mitcham grabbed a dramatic victory in the final over. The visitors from Streatham and Marlborough had put on a great performance with excellent bowling and brave fielding but it was Mitcham's batters who took the 4 points in cold gloomy conditions.

Mitcham's stylish opener, player of the match Ayaan has written the match report:

It was a nail biting finish to an extraordinary match in Mitcham, as the Mitcham U14 emerged victorious over Streatham and Marlborough by 6 wickets. The toss went to the visitors, as they decided to bat, a good decision due to the bad lighting which would arrive later in the second innings.

The opening batsmen were forging together a great partnership of 45 until Rishi Pabari removed both batsmen within 2 of his balls, a great piece of accurate bowling displayed. Things began to slow down slightly, as Rayan Khan took some crucial wickets and built up pressure. Some good death bowling by Michael Davidson restricted Streatham and Marlborough to 119 runs in their 20 overs.

With a fairly modest total to chase, both openers of Mitcham got their eye in and played some great cricket shots, until a peach of a delivery by Luther Mueller sent the bails flying, as the hosts were 1 down. Shortly after, Mitcham were 2 down as a beautiful delivery sent Ollie Sails packing.

At the halfway stage, things were looking fairly grim for Mitcham, as the run rate required was creeping up to almost 8, until the shackles were broken by some excellent hitting by Michael Davidson, and rotation of strike from Ayaan Abaid. The partnership was looking solid and formidable until the visitors struck with the dangerous wicket of Michael.

The run rate required was around 7s, and the game was truly in the balance as Rishi Pabari and Ayaan Abaid got together on the low light pitch. Ayaan and Rishi began their work as Rishi went for the big hits, and Ayaan tried to pick gaps, and, with a crucial 4lb at the end of the 18th over, the equation was 6 from 8 balls, until Ayaan Abaid skyed one in the air, and was removed from the crease.

It was a time for cool heads as Rishi and Rayan Khan both hit boundaries to end a thrilling encounter. This is an exceptional result for Mitcham CC, now at the top of the table for the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship.
