We understand that the owner of the Burn Bullock pub has new plans to restore this eyesore.

The same owner – Phoenix Investments – also owns the freehold of the neighbouring 115 year old pavilion of Mitcham Cricket Club which was purpose built for the club. Since they bought the freehold 10 years ago, they have refused to recognize our long-standing lease or accept any rent from us.

Without a lease we are unable to access funding or develop the facilities which would safeguard the future of cricket on the world’s oldest cricket green.

We believe Phoenix want Mitcham Cricket Club to cease to exist so they can redevelop the site. They have refused to answer any of our letters for the past three years. They have reneged on agreements made in previous meetings. And they have not consulted with us about any plans for redevelopment.

Given Phoenix’s lack of contact, their unwillingness to accept our rights to stay in our historic pavilion and their total mismanagement of the site, any new planning permission must include the transfer of ownership of the pavilion to allow year-round community use. We want to save our club and continue 333 years of cricket on the green.

Please turn up to the public consultation into the plans, wear your cricket colours and help us to keep cricket alive in Mitcham.

Consultation takes place at Monday 25 June 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Vestry Hall, Cricket Green, 336-338 London Road, Mitcham, Surrey CR4 3UD
