One win, one loss and one walkover for MCC's juniors teams this week

Mitcham u14s 177-5 (20)
Spencer u14s 159-7 (20)

Mitcham's Under 14s pulled off a rare victory over Spencer in a 10-a-side run fest in Tooting. The browncaps, wearing their new coloured shirts for the first time, won the toss and batted first in the late afternoon sun. And the Mitcham batters plundered their highest total of the season 177-5 in their 20 overs. It was the two openers who starred; their 132-run 1st wicket partnership sits well with their other stands this season of 158, 65, 89, 60* and 27. Maywon hit two big 6s on his way to 59. Zubair hit thirteen 4s and one 6 for a chance-less 74 before he retired unbeaten. They've now shared over 500 runs and six 50s between them this season. For Spencer Mani bowled spectacularly to take 4 wickets - all clean bowled - for 38, including an unplayable spell of 4 for 6 in 11 balls.

In reply Spencer looked well set after the openers put on 80 in the first 8 overs. Powerful left-hander Oscar plundered 48 in just 29 balls to briefly put the home side ahead of the run rate. But the Mitcham bowlers fought back brilliantly. Zubair (3-32), Hammad (2-23) and debutant Muneef (1-17) kept their lengths well to stifle the batters and saw Mitcham home by 19 runs.

Special mention to skipper Maywon who kept wicket for the first time. A stumping and only 1 bye conceded was fair reward for excellent work behind the stumps. But this was an all-round team effort to win a game played in a terrific spirit: 330 runs and 12 wickets deserved a bigger crowd.

The Mitcham u12s hosted table-topping AJ Academy and the unbeaten visitors proved too strong. AJ scored a huge 177-3 that demoralised the young Mitcham team. Although they finished well short, 72-8 was a good comeback for the home side, who learned an important lesson about the need for discipline in the field.

The u16s had a second consecutive walkover. Hopefully Spencer can provide opposition this Thursday at the Green.
