Softball Cricket Festival 11th September

The Mitcham Sapphires are hosting a women and girls softball cricket festival on Saturday 11th September from 11am to around 4pm.

We will be playing games in six-a-side format, with the Green divided into 3 pitches - so 3 games going in parallel. Its played with a softball so there is no need for the faff of helmets and pads, just plenty of cricket fun!

The festival will take place on the historic Mitcham Cricket Green, which has a long tradition of hosting women’s cricket. It was the venue for Surrey v Jamaica in July 1973 – one of the warm up games for the first ever Women’s Cricket World Cup (the men didn’t have a World Cup until 1975!). We hope our festival will be a warm up ? for Mitcham CC women (the Mitcham Sapphires) playing league cricket for the first time in 2022 – we have applied to participate in the Surrey Smash IT League.

There is free parking on the opposite side of the Green to our pavilion.

We have put out invites to local Clubs and would welcome any individuals (women or girls) wanting to join in. If you are a team or individual interested in participating please contact our Sapphires captain Julia via mitchamcricketclub@gmail.com.

Our cricket Festival forms part of Mitcham Heritage Day and Wandle Fortnight. More details of other Mitcham Heritage Day activities can be found here
And there is information about other events in Wandle Fortnight here

The Festival is supported by an ECB Inspired to Play Grant.
