Fighting performance against one of the favourites to lift the trophy

The under 12s, in a vastly improved effort on their first game against Sutton, went out of the Cup on Friday evening against mighty Wimbledon.

Wimbledon had a number of County players in their ranks, so the result was never really in doubt. But batting first, Mitcham put up a very decent 103-9. Madyn led from the front, with an unbeaten 31 (retired), including six 4s. He had excellent support from Ayaan (15) and Michael (10). At one stage Mitcham were 83-3. The coach had said at the start that he would be mighty pleased if they batted the 20 overs out, and that they did so shows how they put their heads down to make a good total.

Ollie was the pick of the Wimbledon bowlers with 3 for 8 off 3 overs.

Replying, Wimbledon were briefly 6 for 1, with Michael claiming one of the openers clean bowled. Unsurprisingly, they rallied and reached the required total in the 12th over for the loss of only 2 more wickets, both run out. Joseph made 31 retired. With work on our catching, another couple of wickets could easily have gone down. Rayan’s bowling frequently had the batsman in trouble.

The Mitcham fielding was outstanding in its effort. Special mentions to Dasun, Sujal, Gautham and especially Ehsaan, who seemed determined to get some part of their body behind the ball to save runs!

Although we lost, there could be no disappointment on our part for the manner of the performance.

Thanks to Wimbledon for the great spirit in which the game was played.
