Recovery not enough for rusty u16s
First game ends in defeat to Old Ruts
Mitcham u16s had a horror show to start their first game of the season. Having won the toss in overcast conditions Mitcham opted to bat. But a great opening bowling spell, coupled with a few ambitious shots saw them fall to 4 for 4. At 36 for 8 an early night looked on the cards. However one of the few players to have had some practice this year, Zubair, hit an excellent unbeaten 53 in a partnership of 80 with Atif (17*) to post a respectable total of 116-8. The two Lukes took a combined 6 for 36, and were the pick of a strong bowling attack.
Old Ruts showed great patience in their well-timed run chase with Trish hitting the only 6 of the night; which gave the game to Ruts and an excellent half century for him. Luke TP supported with 40*.
Good workout for the Mitcham boys, who need some practice time to improve before next week's game.
