Mitcham CC’s senior ladies softball team, the Sapphires, finished an incredible 2026 season top of the table, with a 6-2 record and 16 points clear to win their Division (Women’s Softball Tier 2 North).

Individual Sapphires players also appeared in force on the Top 10 tables in all three areas. We had the highest ranked batter and 5 players out of 10 in the batting leaderboard were Sapphires. (Gemma Farnworth 120 runs from only 7 innings), Beckie Mills and Kelli Wolfe (c) each with 83 runs, Hilda Ho 73 and Vasi Selvachandran (w) 72) Our bowlers were also highly ranked, with 3 players appearing in the Top 10: Ayca Vural-Cutts (vc) took 6 wickets for 5.60 economy (best 3/28), Beckie Mills 5 wickets for 5.50 (best 2/4 + her first maiden!), Kelli Wolfe 5 wickets for 5.50 (best 2/13). And 3 Sapphires also recognised in the Top 10 Fielders with a combination of stumpings, runs outs and beautiful catches in the field from Gemma, Vasi and Julia. But the official tables don’t tell the full story - the whole team improved across all areas with dedicated efforts made towards cleaner, more consistent bowling, smarter fielding and much more confident batting.

The Sapphires are already making plans for 2027 looking to build on this success with winter training and aiming to grow the squad to continue this progress.
